PE Allstars

Since I will be attending their concert tomorrow, i find it fitting that today’s post should be about the Gym Class Heroes. To sum them up in one word: awesome. Their style is hard to define: it is hip hop, but it uses live instruments like The Roots or the Brand New Heavies. But dissimilar to most live hip hop groups, their instrumentals are further from jazz and funk, and are a little more indie rock, or, dare I say, even emo at times. Basically, their style is all over the place. Their music is also very dynamic, and very musical. MC Travis McCoy is very talented, coming with some very mature lines for such a young MC. A good example is from one of their hit singles, The Queen & I: “Baby girl is a queen… but a queen’s just a pawn with a bunch of fancy moves.” However you describe their style, it just works. And I think that their two major releases, ‘Papercut Chronicles,’ and ‘As Cruel as School Children’ are a great addition to any music collection. And their music videos are all very entertaining, breaking the monotony of booty, rims, chains, and booze. Each one is very humorous and different from the last. Look out for the Gym Class Heroes, cause their blowing up(they have support from Fallout Boy & Kanye… talk about a broad fan base). Listen for them in the Mental Mixes, and for now, check out a couple of the music videos:
