Lifesavas
Lifesavas is a 3-man Hip Hop group out of Portland, Oregon. Representing Quannum, one of independent Hip Hop’s powerhouse labels the group keeps it real, but also fun. Recently I saw them in concert, and it was a great experience. They went from poking fun at Vursatyl for being a bigger guy, to talking about fighting for your right to have your voice heard in a mere matter of minutes. And they pulled it off seamlessly. That’s what makes these guys so great. Aside from the fact that technically, Jumbo and Vursatyl are very talented MCs and that their man behind the boards, DJ Shines, holds it down nicely, the group keeps it diverse in terms of subject matter. And that is what makes their 2007 release, Gutterfly, so nice. The way the tracks are so different lyrically, and yet are all connected well. The album, a concept album, pitted as a soundtrack to a movie that doesn’t exist has a real 70’s funky and soulful vibe, and is definitely worth checking out. And hopefully, you can catch them in your town as they pass through on tour.Gutterfly
