Below the Heavens

Below the Heavens

Blu and Exiles 2007 release “Below the Heavens” is a breath of fresh air. Certainly one of the best produced, and possibly one of the best overall releases this year. The production is handled entirely by DJ Exile, who in the past has lent his talents to such various hip hop talents as Mobb Deep, Jurassic 5, Snoop Dog, MED, and Kardinal Offishall. The beats on this album are spectacular. Exile’s style is soulful and laid-back, with the occasional futuristic sound that really sets his style apart. He really knows how to make a powerful beat.

Not to be outdone, Blu hits hard lyrically. This being his debut release, he has a lot to say, and he seems to say it all. Urb magazine says of Blu, “Blu’s flow is on pin-point and his concepts and topics draw comparisons with the Lupes, Commons and Black Thoughts of the open-minded world.” I couldn’t have said it better myself… Blu comes through on this album with straight fire. This is an album of reflection, and by the end of the album, Blu will have you reflecting on your life. A great debut album, hopefully we will see more from Blu in the near future.
