Boondocks… tonight!

Today marks the arrival of the much anticipated second season of Aaron McGruder’s “The Boondocks.” The show, simultaneously loved by some and hated by others, is the adaptation of McGruder’s nationally syndicated comic strip of the same name. The show has come under fire for “gratuitous use of the ‘n-word,’” and thus is not appropriate for all audiences. But unlike much popular media that uses the word, The Boondocks is a very insightful, very humorous, and very critical program. It is probably my favorite show to date. It is the story of two young black boys, Huey and Riley, who move with their grandfather to the boondocks. Surrounded by rich white folks, they must adapt to (or attempt to change) their new, foreign environment.
The second season will be 20 episodes long, the first of which, airs tonight at 11:30/10:30 central on Cartoon Network, during their adult swim block. The second season has been pushed back several times, and tonight, hopefully it will all be waranted. The premier episode is entitled “… or die trying” and supposedly features guest voiceings from Snoop Dogg, and Mo’nique. The episode originally supposed to lead of the season is called, “The Return of Stinkmeaner,” and from the season 2 promo video, it seems that the Freemans’ neighbour, Tom DuBois, is possessed by the spirit of the mean spirited Col. Stinkmeaner. Watch the season 2 promo, and get excited for another spectacular season of The Boondocks.
