Suite For Ma Dukes is a really cool project. In an effort to bring together musical genres, and in honour of some of the greatest hip hop producers of all time, Vtech presents a series called timeless, in which famed composers perform with and in honour of various hip hop producers. Suite for Ma Dukes is Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Nino’s tribute to the late J-Dilla. The recording is a 4 track EP of orchestral covers of some of J-Dilla’s most memorable productions. It’s an unusual concept, but it somehow works, and feels like something Dilla would co-sign were he alive today. The 4 tracks on the EP are Find a Way, Antiquity, Nag Champa, and of course Fall in Love. The EP is currently available for purchase on iTunes (I’m personally holding out til march for the vinyl release). If you’re in LA, you should go see the performance Saturday the 22nd at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex. Definitely check out the track:
