Mochipet – Master P On Atari

Master P on Atari is the latest release from Taiwanese electronica junkie Mochipet. Fresh off of a leap in notoriety gained through being featured on 2kSports’ NBA2k9 game, Mochipet (David Wang) hits us with a fresh album of banging beats and breaks. Far from a tribute to the former No Limit CEO, the album is a trip through the infinite electronic database of potential videogame thuds, echoes, clatters and other thumping sound effects combined in various permutations.

The sheer multitude of sounds utilized on the album would make you think that each of the songs should be sonic disasters, that is until you realize that these sounds are being utilized by a master of the craft. Every synthesized, mechanized beat on Master P on Atari is a seamless integration of syncopated and regulated rhythms each with infinite head-nodding potential. Master P on Atari is an electronic album to the core, from the opening track, Pythagorean Hyphy Proof, to the album closer, Godzilla New Year (the songtitles here are as clever and uncanny as the music they correspond to). If you’re a fan of electronic music, you’ll find more than enough to love on this album. If you aren’t a fan of electronic music, this album could surely change your mind. And if it doesn’t, well, then there’s no hope for the genre in your future.
