Nite People- What Do You Mean You People?

This is one of the few albums that opens with a strong enough beginning to draw me in. It opens with “Defense Mechanism” which is a lyrically driven and powerful track. Filled with social commentary and deep introspection, it gives a preview of the rest of the album’s songs (as it can be seen as repetitive), while being an interesting track in and of itself.

The album begins to wear thin a little as each song can start to sound the same. About halfway through the album the tempo switches with “Ricochet”. “Ricochet” is a pounding track featuring Arablak, Dibz and Yohon D, all who go in hard and smoothly alternate between verses with the same intensity.

Production on “What Do You Mean You People” has an interesting feel. The beats are similar on every song, yet each one feels like it brings something new to complement the overall picture. They aren’t particularly clean and neat, which serves the artist well as far as overall sound goes. They complement the lyricism in a way that makes one engage the music beyond just hearing it.

Lyrically, each song is great. Ethereal Plains has strong delivery and is very good when it comes to overall content.

Nite People feels like a cross between Psyche Origami and Seven Star, both superb acts that clearly don’t get enough attention. If you love underground hip-hop then this is definitely something to try. A particularly strong slant on social and personal issues appeals to people who enjoy seeing conscious lyrics. Overall this is a solid album and definitely worth a pick-up for the more seasoned listener.
