Last week we heard K’naan’s tribute to Fela. This week we get the next installment, which is a tribute to Bob Marley. The projects have been extremely well done so far. I love the interludes and how well the provide some context about the artists and their music legacy from a historical and political standpoint. But K’naan is also very personal about his connection to each artist. It really makes me appreciate the music more (which is what an interlude ideally does). I also very much appreciate how K’naan doesn’t take the easy road and just use the tracks that people already know, but instead delves a little deeper into their catalogue to create a set of tracks that really provide a nice overview of the artist. Basically, I have no complaints so far. We’ll see next week when the Bob Dylan installment drops (because I’m not a fan of his). But so far, 2 for 2.
